'A cup of tea!' Is there a phrase in our language more eloquently significant of physical and mental refreshment, more expressive of remission of toil and restful relaxation, or so rich in associations with the comforts and serenity of home life, and also with unpretentious, informal, social intercourse?

"Una tazza di tè!". Vi è forse frase nella nostra lingua che parli con maggiore eloquenza di ristoro fisico e mentale, di recupero dalla fatica e di distensione rifocillante, o che sia così ricca di associazioni con il conforto e la serenità della vita domestica, oltre che con lo stare in compagnia in modo informale e sobrio?

Chi non ha molta familiarità con gli idiomi inglesi, può non essersi imbattuto nell'espressione "it's my cup of tea" (o, nell'accezione negativa, "it's not my cup of tea"). Tradotta alla lettera significa "E'/non è la mia tazza di tè",ma usata colloquialmente in inglese, assume il significato di "E'/Non è la cosa che fa per me, o ciò che preferisco". E' un'espressione che mi ha sempre fatto benignamente sorridere perché ammicca così ironicamente all'importanza quasi iconica del "tea" nell'universo britannico, riuscendo a racchiudere, come sa fare così bene la lingua inglese, grande immediatezza espressiva in un' immagine modesta, sia per brevità che astrazione domestica. E' un'espressione che continua a piacermi perché riconduce le passioni umane, in tutta la loro mutevolezza e velleità poetiche, all'universo dei piccoli e semplici piaceri del quotidiano. Come dire: mi piace ciò che mi fa star bene, che mi si addice, che mi dà conforto e mi ristora. Ed è ciò che ho imparato negli anni dovrebbe essere l'Amore.
Con Antonio abbiamo condiviso tante tazze di tè (e tisane), in città diverse, in case diverse, a volte (troppo spesso) al telefono. La nostra relazione non è stata senza le sue difficoltà, le sue avventure, le sue sfide. Ci ha sempre uniti la voglia e il piacere di stare insieme.
Antonio è la mia casa, mi fa star bene, semplicemente "è la mia tazza di tè'". Per questo, e molto altro, voglio trascorrer il resto della mia vita con lui.
Francesca e' la mia miscela di sapori di casa ed esotiche fragranze. E' la ragione che ho trovato per mettermi alla prova, sempre. Per questo, e molto altro, voglio trascorrer il resto della mia vita con lei.

The expression "my cup of tea" has always made me smile benignly as it alludes so ironically to the almost iconic importance of tea in British culture, managing to distill great expressive immediacy in a modest imagery, as the English language knows how to do so well. It's an expression that resonates with me for it relates human passions, despite all their often lyrical posturing, to the realm of the small and simple pleasure of the everyday. It is equivalent to saying: I like what makes me feel good, what comforts and restores me. It is what over the year I have learnt Love should be.
Antonio and I have shared many cups of tea (and herbal infusions), in different cities, in different homes, at times (all too often) over the phone. Our relationship has not been without its difficulties, its adventures, its challenges. The pleasure of being together has always united us.
Antonio is my home, he makes me feel good, he is simply "my cup of tea". For this, and much more, I wish to spend the rest of my life with him.
Francesca is my blend of homely flavours and exotic fragrances. She is the reason I have found to challenge myself, always. For this, and much more, I wish to spend the rest of my life with her.
